Chapter 9: Volcano [Unfinished]
Chapter 9: “Volcano”
In the morning, Mushareo woke up slowly to avoid waking Shianna too. He dressed and went out into the kitchen. The sun was just beginning to crest the looming peak of Mt. Sinkay. Kenkar came into the kitchen moments later. The two men just looked at each other with knowing glances and boyish grins. Mushareo looked out the window at the mountain again and pointed at it as he spoke, “That mountain would make me a bit nervous if I was living here…” he said. “Why? I don’t see anything to be worried about.” Kenkar said sipping a glass of water. “That’s the problem, the danger is underground. Mt. Sinkay is a dormant volcano. It’s still dangerous. I heard that the last time it erupted, half of the mountain was incinerated by the force of the lava. The there are those in Maylocka that predict that this mountain may just be waking up.” Mushareo paused, “If that thing blows, this town has less that a minute until the ash starts to fall, it just gets worse after that…” he said. There was something eerie about the way Mushareo talked that made Kenkar feel as though Mushareo had a sense that something cataclysmic was imminent. “How do you know so much about volcanoes?” Kenkar asked. “I read a book once, a book of all the great legends of the world… Mt. Sinkay was just one of them.” Mushareo said.
